Wolverhampton MS Therapy Centre

A Hidden Gem!

Situated alongside the canal at Newbridge is the M S Therapy Centre.  Set up in 1986 to help people who

suffer from Multiple Sclerosis.  A warm welcome awaits visitors in a lovely setting backing on to the canal. Members and their families/carers can sit around the large table and chat while waiting for their appointments.  On sunnier days the terrace is available to watch the world go by (or the odd narrowboat or two).

Our charity has been providing therapies and support to our members and their families/carers in the local area and throughout the West Midlands, Shropshire and Staffordshire for 33 years in September this year.  The centre has a small staff team and a number of volunteers who give their time each week. Members self-refer to us who have Multiple Sclerosis, other neurological conditions, along with members who have cancer, strokes, sports injuries and more.

The centre offers oxygen under pressure in a chamber and more recently members who cannot go in to the chamber for what- ever reason can sit outside of the chamber breathing oxygen through a mask.

We offer physiotherapy, reflexology and other holistic therapies such as massage, reiki and psychotherapy.

Our objective is to be able to continue to offer our services to our members who currently use our lovely facilities but also to try and help more families out in the community who may need our support.  To enable us to do this we have to raise over £150,000 per annum.  Our members pay a contribution towards the cost of their therapy and we are very grateful to receive donations from  organisations such as the James Beattie Trust whose recent donation of £2125.00 will go towards helping the centre become COVID safe for our members enabling them to have their own masks when they return following the lock down .

Wolves Play Cafe

On behalf of Wolves Play Café I would like to say a huge thank you to the James Beattie Charitable Trust  for your generous donation of £557.20 for the Play at Home Activity Packs Project.

The funds have enabled us to carefully develop and resource 20 Play At Home Packs which will be distributed by working with Low Hill Nursery School. They will support families with young children in the area by providing quality resources, books and activities to support playing and development of little ones at home at this challenging time. The funding also has provided the opportunity for the organisation to be able to reproduce the packs in the future to further support families and enable investment in Wolves Play Café’s accessible play opportunities across the city.

We have shared the project via social media and will be posting a short blog about the project including photos and testimonials on our website as well.

Thank you again for your contribution to supporting young children and caregivers in our city.

Kind regards,

Lisa Stallard

Let Us Play Wolverhampton

Let Us Play would like to thank the James Beattie Trust for their grant enabling us to continue supporting the amazing

children we have the pleasure of working with. Lockdown has been especially hard for our members as the change in routine is very hard

to understand. Our families have said receiving our activity and craft packs ‘feels like Christmas’, and we know being able to see the Let Us Play team on youtube, making the craft is very comforting for our members as normality at the moment is very rare.

Let us Play have also sent make your own teddy bears with scrubs to the children with a letter for parents to try and help the children understand what’s going on and hopefully feel happier.

If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

With the very best regards.

Claire McKen

Bilbrook Initiatives Hub

On behalf of my committee, to the board of trustees, we want to express our gratitude for the funding that you very generously donated to the Hub to help support us in our hot meal provision scheme during the current pandemic crisis.
Last week we delivered 124 meals and this week we expected to deliver more.
So far during lockdown we have seen the demand for meals increase by 20% every week, with Sunday lunch being the most popular!
We are grateful to have George and Helen preparing the meals every day for those who need them, and as you can see, where we can, meals are delivered by bicycle!
Many thanks again.
Kindest regards

Christians Against Poverty

Jean Deakin CAP Wolverhampton Centre Manager and Graham Phillips Senior Pastor LifeSpring Church with Stuart Anderson MP

Thank you for your generous donation to our CAP centre based at LifeSpring Church in Wolverhampton. LifeSpring partnered with Christians Against Poverty 10 years ago to provide debt advice and support to some of the most vulnerable people in our city.

Since opening in 2010 we have visited individuals and families to offer them help to become debt free through our debt repayment plan or insolvency advice.

We take a holistic approach and whilst never paying anyone’s debts for them, your donation will help with associated issues such as lack of food, loneliness, essential household items and clothing.

Some of the recent comments from clients:

“My words are not enough to describe the joy you brought me.”

“Thank you for listening to me, consoling me and inspiring me when I felt vulnerable and alone. You restored my faith in life and I am truly grateful.”

1st Bilston Scout Group

To the Trustees of the James Beattie Charitable Trust

Thank you for your kind donation for the 1st Bilston Scout Group.

The James Beattie Trust has kindly supported the 1st Bilston Group for over 20 Years on funding for different projects but mainly with the development of our Scout Headquarters in Bilston. The 1st Bilston is one of the oldest Scout Groups in the world and have been on the site in Bilston for over 100 Years

The Scout Headquarters have continued to change over the time from a former pig sty in the Laburhams Hall to a former 1st World War hall to a purpose brick building. A few years ago the building was set on fire by vandals and the land leased. We now own the building and land and due to other buildings in the area we have to secure the site for generations to come

Thanks again

Many Thanks

Denis Evans MBE

The Giving Hands Mission

We are indeed very grateful for your donation which we received in     2019 and for your continuous support.

We are glad to let you know the impact of your donation, what we have been able to achieve with it including photos of our work with service users (The homeless, individuals and families in need of food and clothing and all those around us facing severe deprivation).

With your support, we have been helping the homeless and rough sleepers, the poor and needy, those with severe debt problems, those leaving hostels and rehab centres, those with health problems, the socially isolated, those fleeing domestic violence, those having severe depression, the underprivileged and disadvantaged, and all those within our reach whose lives are a struggle due to the hardship that they face daily.

Also with your support, we were able food, fruits, clothing, sleeping bags, furniture and household items to families and individuals who are living in poverty in order for them to step into a better and more comfortable way of living. For the homeless, we went further by helping to secure accommodation, assist them to apply for benefits and train them so they can be ready for work. In addition, for those of our service users who have a place to live and are not being able to afford electricity/gas, we provide them with electric/gas top-up vouchers, so they can have electricity, hot water, stay warm and be able to make hot meals for themselves and their children.

All items and services are provided free of charge to all our service users.

The planned outcome of our project is to help the homeless, the poor and needy, and aged people to attain a better quality of life. The key outcome is to help them to develop their independence, develop their self-confidence, increase their ability to tackle setbacks, improve their ability to identify and change negative behaviour and generally to have improved and better lives.

Kindly find attached photos of our work.

Kind regards,

George Peter

The MSA Trust

The Multiple System Atrophy Trust was delighted to receive a grant from The James Beattie Charitable Trust, specifically for our work providing specialist support and practical help to families in Wolverhampton affected by the terminal neurodegenerative disease MSA. Our work helps our members when they are at their most vulnerable: “We took Dad to a support group, where he could see what the future looked like and learn how to make the most of the present. He spoke to your nurse and briefly escaped the isolated feeling that so many MSA patients can experience when locked in to a body that won’t do what their mind so ardently wishes. You enabled Dad to see the future, and prepare for it accordingly.
Thank you again for your support.

Oasis Soup Kitchen

To the Trustees of the James Beattie Charitable Trust-

Thank you so much for your generous gift for the Oasis Soup Kitchen.

This will be spent on food for the under privileged in the Wolverhampton area.  We have been going now for 15 years in March, we serve up to 50 people on a Monday evening.

The idea of Oasis came one Sunday evening, 15 years ago, when my wife and I were watching Songs of Praise, in the programme it showed a lady washing the feet of the poor in a Bournemouth cemetery.  We both immediately felt we should serve the poor in our local community with a soup kitchen.

Since we have started we have seen it grow from 7 on the first evening up to 40+.  We serve soup a main meal and sometimes a dessert.

We have seen over the years lives changed for the better.

Our funding in the past has mainly come from the Wolves Trust, Express and Star, yourselves plus other charitable contributions.

The Good Shepherd and The Well Food Bank help us with food when they can.

Once again, from all the recipients who will benefit from your gift a very grateful thank you.

Yours thankfully

Colin & Ann Roe

Listening Books

The James Beattie Trust has supported Listening Books in delivering our audiobook lending service to many people in the local community who find it difficult or impossible to read print due to an impairment, such as arthritis, glaucoma or dyslexia.  Such fantastic support has helped to spread the joy of reading throughout Wolverhampton via the spoken word.’

We very much appreciate the Trust’s loyal support for our work.
